Growing up on an apple farm in Australia taught me the benefits of a strong work ethic from an early age. When it was time to go to college, I came to the United States at the age of 18 with just a suitcase and my tennis rackets. I was ready to face the hard work and commitment it takes to succeed as a NCAA student-athlete.
I know my clients are no strangers to hard work, either.
I represent working moms, small business owners, and everyone in between, all of whom have had their lives interrupted by an injury that leaves them unable to do what they need to – sometimes permanently.
And despite their lives being torn apart, they’re willing to do what it takes to fight for the life they had before their injury.
From the time I was in high school to when I served as captain of my NCAA tennis team, I went out of my way to support people facing uphill battles.
When I started at North Carolina Central University School of Law, I felt called to plaintiff’s work for this reason. I was captivated by the idea of helping people fight back when someone else’s recklessness has caused them suffering.
I graduated from law school with honors and worked for two large personal injury firms before opening my own firm. The experience I gained with these practices was invaluable, but there was something missing. I wanted to be able to truly get to know every one of my clients. That way, I’m able to paint the picture of their injury that can get them the best possible outcome to move forward with their life.
And that’s exactly what I do with each case I take.
I work diligently to ensure my clients get the medical care and support they need to recover as best as possible from their injuries. Along the way, through regular communication and time spent getting to know my clients, I learn the many ways in which the accident has impacted and changed their lives.
Then, when it comes time to present their case, I comprehensively lay out their pain and suffering to make it clear who my client truly is, how their life has changed, and why they need compensation.
That’s why performing a thorough investigation of my clients’ claims is so important to their case. This includes everything from collecting physical evidence, medical evidence, and witness statements to researching relevant case law and information about the opposing party.
I use trade-specific software tools that allow my clients an edge over their opponents, which can be essential for bringing a successful case. For example, we’re able to see criminal history reports, driving history reports, and board licensing complaints, and work with private investigators and field experts to help build my client’s claim.
When we use these tools and work one-on-one with each client to ensure we understand the pain and suffering and changes in lifestyle the injury has caused them, we can put our clients in the best position to receive the full value of their claim.
Outside the courtroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and our two miniature Australian Shepherds. I like to stay active through yoga, hiking, and, of course, tennis. I also enjoy gaming. When I can, I volunteer my time with the NC Justice Center, an organization dedicated to protecting the rights of immigrants and refugees.
Every day, I’m in awe of my clients’ strength and their willingness to fight back after they’ve been harmed. It takes bravery to stand up for what’s right, and I’m honored to be a part of their journey toward a better tomorrow.
